Dr. Wesley Boone
Dr. Wesley Boone is a storyteller at heart, using science, education, and media to connect people with conservation in meaningful ways. His background in wildlife ecology, field research, and science communication has given him a unique perspective on what it takes to not only study the natural world but also to inspire others to care about it.
With experience working in both academic and nonprofit spaces, Wesley understands the challenges young conservation professionals face—uncertain career paths, demanding fieldwork, and the need to translate their passion into lasting impact. He has mentored students and early-career conservationists, helping them navigate the realities of the profession while staying true to their goals.
As an advisor to Conservation Collaborative, Wesley brings expertise in survey design, data analysis, and creative outreach. He knows that conservation is about more than just protecting species—it’s about supporting the people doing the work. Through CC, he helps ensure that new professionals in the field feel heard, valued, and equipped with the tools they need to build fulfilling careers. Whether through research, mentorship, or storytelling, Wesley is committed to making conservation a field where people can thrive as much as the landscapes they work to protect.
Wesley holds both a Master’s and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. His Master’s research focused on the impacts of fire frequency on wildlife community composition in the longleaf pine ecosystem, while his doctoral work examined the influence of isolation on the ecology and genetic structure of island-dwelling rodent populations.
